Increasing and Improving Natural Resources

Boston University Marine Program Logo BOSTON UNIVERSITY MARINE PROGRAM (BUMP)

Boston University Marine Program (BU) was established 30 years ago and is located at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The program focuses on marine related environmental and management issues in temperate and tropical environments throughout the world.

Specific areas of expertise include:

  • Nutrient analyses
  • Contaminant measurement
  • Assessing nitrogen sources of eutrophication
  • Surveying and sampling populations of algae, plants, shellfish, and fin fish
  • Modeling key populations of commercial importance
  • Applying GIS studies to detect changes in land use in coastal habitats

Illustrative water resource management global projects

Current international projects include the use of stable isotopic signatures measured in water and plants to detect anthropogenic and natural nitrogen in estuaries in Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Panama.
