Environmental Compliance. DevTech provided technical support to USAID E&E Bureau's Environmental Compliance Support Services project (2002-2005). The project helps Washington and field-based staff and partners fulfill requirements of USAID environmental regulations regarding environmental impacts of US-funded activities overseas, many of which affect water sources.

Operation and Management of Water Systems. DevTech provided project management services to the USAID EcoLinks Trade and Investment program in USAID's EGAT Bureau for five years and continues to provide short-term technical assistance in support of the program. One of four technical areas of the program is water management, with a focus on urban and industrial water pollution and municipal water supply.

Information Management. DevTech managed the Environmental Information Systems and Networking (EISN) program (1997-2002) for the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the USAID Bureau for Europe and Eurasia (EE). DevTech implemented several activities under this umbrella, including an analysis of Wastewater and Water Treatment Technology Options for Eastern Europe, and an Assessment of Environmental Impacts of Land Privatization in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, which identified key environmental trends by sector, including agriculture, forestry, wetlands, and protected areas, for the 15 countries evaluated.

Water Management. DevTech assessed the Jordan water sector for USAID with specific emphasis on the needs of the target populations and areas with deficient water resource management structures. DevTech also assisted the mission in evaluating the overall impact of the program's implementation over the past 10 years. Recently, this work has included projects designed to integrate gender concerns into development programs in the environmental, water, and agricultural sectors.

Gender and Water Management. DevTech is beginning early implementation of a gender assessment of the West Africa Water Initiative. The West Africa Water Initiative currently focuses its work in three countries in West Africa: Ghana, Mali, and Niger. The goals of the Initiative embrace the principle of sound water management and will reach more than one-half million people with new water wells, water resources, and latrines.

Citizen Participation in Water Management. In Bolivia, DevTech is a subcontractor on USAID's Democratic Decentralization and Citizen Participation Project Phase III. DevTech is supervising the gender and urban service delivery and infrastructure components for this project, including water and wastewater.
