Increasing and Improving Natural Resources

PADF logoPan-American Development Foundation(PADF)

The Pan-American Development Foundation (PDAF) is an independent, non-profit organization that creates public/private partnerships to assist the least advantaged people in Latin America and the Caribbean. PADF is recognized as a repository of technical knowledge in agricultural production and marketing, soil and water conservation, agro-forestry, natural resources management, and income generation for farm families.

PADF has four main areas of work:

1) Creating Economic Opportunities
2) Promoting Social Progress
3) Strengthening Communities and Civil Society
4) Responding to Natural Disasters

During 1999-2001, PADF led a consortium in implementing the $10 million Hurricane Georges Recovery Program (HGRP), including 80 sub-project activities designed to raise agricultural incomes, rebuild community infrastructure, protect key watersheds, and provide community training and public awareness on disaster mitigation, preparedness, and response. Immediately after Hurricane Mitch struck in 1999, PADF began the implementation of Early Flood Alert Warning Systems.
